This past weekend was a whirlwind of fun.. cool girls, pretty dresses.. maybe some late night Papa John's and roof climbing. I feel so lucky to have met so many awesome people through blogging, and not just stylish gals with talent, but down to earth chicks who like to have a good time! So here is like the only outfit I really got photos of this weekend. I wore this on Saturday to hang around Lincoln center with a bunch of gal pals to do some people watching, and to be watched ourselves! It's funny walking around Lincoln center with no real purpose for being there, but to be mobbed by photographers for what you are wearing either way. I have experienced this before, but my lovely friend Kater from All This Happiness who was staying with me was a bit new to the scene and it was funny to see her get asked for her photo, and then to have 5 more photogs pounce!

Pretty much everything I am wearing here is vintage, the coat and dress as from Donnaland when I went to work in her St. Louis warehouse. I think this coat is the best thing ever, it really makes me stand out in a city where everyone wears all black. And I have gotten a billion comments on it since I got it. The wooden box bag I also got in St. Louis, but from a flea market we went to on our day off. It was a bit more then I would normally spend, but I knew that if I left without it I would be thinking about it forever! The shoes I just scored the other day from Beacon's Closet in Park Slope, and they are by Ann Demeulemeester.. which was a bit of a struggle to pronounce right when asked what I was wearing! The hat and tights are from forever 21.

This outfit made it onto a few sites from that day, including The Cut and The Fashionista! This is actually the second time I have made The Cut, the other time was a few seasons ago I think durring the September fashion week. Pretty excited. But whatevs, I guess I was doing something right!

Amy Merrick flower shop

Yesterday I had the immense pleasure of stopping by the valentines pop-up flower shop my friend Amy Merrick has been hosting this weekend in the west village! Amy is a talented Brooklyn based florist who also keeps an ever inspiring blog An Apple A Day. I have not known Amy for too long, but I have been a fan of her wonderfully wild and natural floral creations for some time now. I came to show my support (gosh knows I love flowers and small businesses!) and to buy myself one of her bouquets, quite a dream I must say! She is super sweet and put this one you can see below together for me. It was nice to pick out a flower and have her just make something organically from that.

Amy will be selling her creations for one more day, valentines day! Don't miss out on getting your special someone (or if your me, yourself!) the most amazing flowers on earth! So lets get started on this Fashion Week coverage! This go around I once again didn't have too many obligations, but I did manage to get my way into a show or two. I started the week off right with the Lauren Moffatt show, which I could not have been more pleased with! School girl vibes with mini skirts and knee socks, complete with great fabric choices and color that pops! This was her first presentation and I sure am glad she's started doing them. For the type of girl these cute outfits attract, this sort of character presentation was spot on! It gave you a chance to get some really great editorial type photos, plus a look at the clothing from every angle. I can't wait to see what she does next season!

So a week ago I got involved in a really cool project with my friends in the band Twin Sister and MTV. You may have heard of this semi-new online MTV show Weird Vibes that has an awesome old school MTV feel to it. About a month ago I was enjoying a night of karaoke with these friends and bandmates and I was told of this project they were going to be working on. That they were to host a music video show, and do pretty much anything they wanted in between. I wanted to get involved with ya know, hair and makeup, set up and costumes and stuff. But then Andrea gave me a part as Baby New Year! Mr. Weird Vibes' (Andrea) hot lady friend to bring out guests and serve champagne!

The full episode wont be out until Monday, but for now stop by the Werid Vibes page for a little clip of the talk show that is Twin Sisters brain child. Thanks to everyone involved, the WV team put up an amazing set and really had fun with the thing. I really can't wait, it's quite...WEIRD!

Today was a wonderful day filled with pretty lady friends and yummy food! Kater from All This Happiness came to the city for a day trip with her Thom Yorke look alike boyfriend John (sorry John if you get that all the time, The likeness is just uncanny!) I met Kater back in September at our NYFW blogger picnic, but it was only a short visit and It left me longing for more of this lady in my life! She's so super sweet and down to earth, and if I say so myself, amazingly beautiful in person.. that porcelain skin.. and the best eyebrows! :)

I met up with her and Anna in the east village for food and drinks at this great place called Mud Cafe. They have a great closed in backyard we sat in, lots of pretty stained glass and lights. Delicious food as well! It was a lovely lunch with some great ladies, I really do love the amazing gals I have gotten to meet through all this blogging, making life long friends here.. or so I hope!

Thanks to Kater's boy John for taking these photos for me, she said he was well used to it and knew what to do, hah! As you can guess, everything is vintage, all thrifted except for the shoes which came from Donnaland. I love this blouse so so much. Thrifted it from a salvation army back on LI a year or more ago. I do believe it is handmade, and lacked buttons or button holes. So I sewed on a few snaps and it was good as new.. or good as used I should say.

Oh! And I dyed my hair too in case ya didn't notice. After my last outfit post I saw just how many colors my hair was.. and decided it was time to fix it up a bit. A bit more red than I intended, really.. but I do like the darker look of it!

Today was a lovely day, although it ended with me working a 6pm-2am shift I got home from not too long ago, it started spending the day goofing around williamsburg with my friend Anna. I met her for some food at this place Vanessa's Dumpling house that just opened that location last week. It was my first time going, and it was delicious and I got a butt load of food for under $5 so it was a success. Then we just wandered around and stopped in a few places like Junk and THIS AMAZING PLACE called Brooklyn Charm that sells all the beads and charms and chains and fixin's for making jewelry.. it's really amazing, Anna was the one doing the shopping but I will definitely be gong back when I get more of an idea of what I want to make. And when I have more time as well, like I said I had to be getting to work later on and I could have spent hours in that place.

Today was really mild, which was a nice departure from some of the freezing cold weather we have been having as of late. So all of this coat and scarf nonsense I had going on was really not necessary and I was totally over dressed. I got the coat at this thrift store back on LI I used to go to all the time.When I got this baby I think it was in the spring, all coats 50% off, so it came out to like 4 bucks or something. I love it, and it has the only real fur I own on it. The awesome tapestry bag I got from Kennedy Holmes and it very nicely fits my camera, wallet and phone. The little navy blue cardigan I got from the boys section of another location of the same thrift store back on LI as the coat. The tee and plaid skirt I got last weekend going to the Goodwill Outlet in Long Island City with my good friend Liz, she took me out for some breakfast and rummaging. And the shoes are Aldo, I just got them recently with a gift card I received for xmas. They are my first brand new, as in not owned by anyone else before, clothing item purchase in a long time! haha! I really like them, the heel is the perfect height but I'm also hoping they will hold up the the cold winter New Yrok weather we are just beginning to feel round these parts.

Happy new year everyone! This is my first post of 2012, and I'm already off to a horrible start! Five days into the month and all I have is this little post here with a silly photo. The start of this month marks two years since I started writing on this blog, as well as having my etsy shop. It has been an absolutely amazing journey, learning about and meeting all kinds of great people who I now call friends. I finally moved out of Long Island with my boyfriend and we are happy as ever!

So now lets get down to new years resolutions, first off I need to start blogging more regularly again. I need to get up the courage to start taking outfit photos out on the street or something, because I have really been lacking in the department and I think thats why. Back at our old place I had more privacy to do such things, and have very little indoor light here, so I just need to suck it up and get back in touch with my tripod. Another one as always is to be clean and more tidy in my living space. Hang things back up and having a place for everything to make things more manageable and not let it get overwhelming. I also would like to take up yoga for my posture and crooked spine issues. I also want to get a portfolio together and really try to model professionally. Because I know I have what it takes and it's time to start getting paid for it, cause I'm nearly broke all the time!

So, christmas has just passed, happy holidays to you all! I had a quiet weekend back at home on LI, just my parents and my little sister and older brother. We watched movies like The Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story.. don't worry, A Christmas Story and Elf were in there too, ha! My pops kept a fire going in the wood burning stove all day on christmas eve, and my mom made a delicious dinner. I got some awesome coffee table books and some perfume. I slept on my sisters floor on an air mattress in what used to be my bedroom. She moved into it from her room upstairs earlier this year.. kind of weird not having a room at home anymore. But she did paint it a really cool color and covered this wall with magazine cut outs and stuff. She's pretty cool, loves The Beatles and she got a book on Marilyn Monroe for christmas, who she says is her idol. Pretty cool inspiration in my book. Oh and my family got a new puppy, a black lab named Abbey like a month or so ago and I just got to meet her! So it was a really nice holiday weekend.

These photos have nothing to do with christmas. I was just bored and playing around with eyeliner, nothing too festive. I mean look, I'm in all black! I usually stand out like a sore thumb around town and on the subways where EVERYONE is wearing a black coat. I tend to wear a lot of color and I like it that way, so strange how many people wear black in this city.. anyway, I couldn't find my camera right now so these are some photo booth pictures. I havent used it in a while, truth be told I haven't used my mac too much since I got an Iphone, heh. But as soon as I find my camera I should get a few shots of what my place looks like now that we am all settled in and everything. You can kind of see one of our walls in the living room behind me and the window I'm sitting next to. I really dig this place, and want to share it with you all! It's kind of clean most of the time! Just the bedroom becomes a problem, I have a hard time hanging all my clothes back up!

Birthday!

So here are photos from my actual birthday. Once again, instagram photos from Courtney and myself. We started the day of by sleeping in a bit since we did stay up till about 5am the night before after dancing. I made breakfast.. er, lunch, for everyone and then we headed into willismasburg to go to Beacon's Closet. Really the only vintage place I would take people from out of town if they really wanted to buy a thing or two. They have the best prices and so much to look through. After I found some amazing shoes, and the dress I would wear later that night, we went over the B.A.D. Burger for my birthday dinner. It was really great, we had the place to ourselves and the food was delish.

Then after a quick stop home to get ready we went to the Bowery Ballroom to see Twin Sister and Widowspeak play. Soooo good! The both fo them! I only heard about Widowspeak when I heard they were playing with Twin Sister, but I have been listening to them non stop ever since. And they are from Brooklyn, so even better! Twin Sister was amazing as always, Andrea even gave a little birthday shout out to me :) After the show we just hung out at the bar there until heading home for a late night munchies feast. I made TJ's shrimp corn dogs! And we got some friend chicken from the place around the corner, hah! All in all it was a great weekend, I am so happy to have so many caring friends, thanks for a great birthday everyone, 24 feels like its going to be a good year!

Birthday dance party!

So this saturday was my 24th birthday!! I was lucky enough to have some real great plans this birthday weekend with some really great people, I love birthdays! Since my birthday is a week before christmas, usually not too many people can celebrate with me, since there are lots of other holiday parties going on, and people are headed back home to their families and such. This go around I had a perspective 45 people wanting to celebrate my birthday with me the night before at Otto's Shrunken Head tiki lounge for their once a month "Rebelnight" where they DJ 50s and 60s pop and rock. And all people I really love, I was surprised to see I have 40 friends hahah.
I also had my dear friends in from western MA, Courtney, Chris and Sam, as well as my best friend Ali and her boyfriend Steve staying at my place all weekend. So it was a full house, and I love it! We went out dancing, I got a it too drunk, I got to wear a beautiful party dress that I have been saving especially for my birthday. It was a great night. Dalaga & The Loved One

So last week was the launch party for The Loved One's launch at Dalaga in Greenpoint. Dalaga always throws some fun parties, I have been to a few in the past for the 5 year anniversary, FNO and the like. Always nice treats and drinks, lovely girls and lots of great clothes! I love the stuff Dalaga carries, I din't shop new too much.. or ever really.. but if I were to, this would eb the first place I would go. They have the most amazing collection of Seychelles shoes and all the right party dresses.

The evening was quite fun, lots of people came out to celebrate this fine collaboration. I ended up wearing a dress I had every intention on selling earlier that day. Hannah helped me take shop photos the same day, and this dress I had never even tried on really until that day.. then I did and I saw the photos of myself in it and just had to keep it! I felt very glamorous in that dress, I'll be sure to wear it again and get better photos. Yay! An outfit post!! It really sucks that I have been so bad at capturing my outfits these days, cause since I have been back from St. Louis I have had a whole new slew of dresses from Donnaland, I have been wearing a new one like every day. This dress being one of them, maybe my favorite, I mean look at that print! And the cut is just right, definitely holding onto this one for a while! This coat is also from Donna, I picked up 4 coats when I was there! I was kind of in need of a new one, but now I have so many I can actually pick and choose and make my coat a part of my outfit, not just what goes over it. I can't really say wich one of those is my favorite, but this one has gotten quite a few compliments. I got these shoes the other week from Beacon's Closet, the tassels on the shoe laces made me cave in a buy them!

So pretty much all of the new items are now up in the shop, be sure to head on over and check them out, there are some really great colors in there. Everyone here in NYC wears black all the time, but I am drawn to so much more color, and that really comes out in the way I curate my shop. I hope you all like color too! Oh, and I just want to say thank you for all the kind words from my readers, a few posts back I mentioned how I am just not to driven in this whole blog thing right now.. but so many of you urged me to keep going! Saying nice things like I'm your favorite blogger, and a big inspiration.. gosh you guys. Way to make a girl blush!! I will try my best to stay at it, I really do love this community!!

Wow you guys, I have been the WORST blogger this month!!! I don't know what it is, I'm just not feeling too driven about it anymore... or I'm just going through a lazy period, which happens to me from time to time. But thats no excuse! I last left off in St. Louis, but now I'v been home for about two weeks, and I have a whole new wardrobe with me! Thanks to Donnaland I have had a new dress to wear every day! And lots of pretty things for the shop. Which brings me to my next point, there has been a Golden Fur Vintage shop update! The first in like over 4 months! Sorry about that guys, I have been hoarding vintage!!! This is just a little one, I convinced my boyfriend to help me take shop photos today, and I could only get a bit out of him. I have about 40 more pieces to shoot and list, just waiting for the help of one of my lovely lady friends. So we have been in St. Louie for a week now, and still another to go! We have spent this last week completely organizing Donna's warehouse, making sense of the madness that is over flowing from huge cardboard bins. Apparently not too much organization had been done before, a bale would just get popped and thrown wherever. So we have ben digging through things and putting like things together.. ya know, fun stuff! And I ain't joking, it's like a treasure hunt! Especially when we get to keep goodies for ourself. Donnaland in St. Louis

So I have made it to St. Louis! We arrived in town yesterday, me on a flight from JFK and Sam and Courtney coming from western Mass. And today we got straight to work! The Donnaland warehouse is in part of the old Lemp brewery factory that went out of business when prohibition took hold of America. But I'm happy the buildings are still around because it's a really beautiful and creepy place. We spent all day going through big big boxes of vintage, sorting things out, getting rid of stuff that was not up to par, and just messing around. Oh and drinking PBR ;) Today was just the first day of two weeks here working for Donna, and after we get things organized in the boxes, we get to start opening bales! Stuff that has not been seen by human eyeballs for at least 35 years! Now, below enjoy some instagram photo taken by all three of us today, we did a whole lot of that too, hah!

Halloween Bash!

After having a Halloween party two nights ago I want to have them all the time! I really love decorating mostly, it's too bad there aren't more holidays or special occasions to really go all out on. I do plan on keeping most of these decorations up for a bit, like the lights and the paper chains perhaps. Makes the place look nice I think.

Anyway, most of the people who came were new friends and co workers from my new store. There are twice as many people at this one than at my old one.. so having a party and inviting nearly everyone is a totally different experience hah. And with this group, you get people comming in waves every hour, because we work till 2am at TJ's so people were getting off every hour until then. I also don't live too far from my Trader Joe's so lots of people decided to come I guess. The last few stragglers left around 5am! And by that point Jeremy was passed out on the couch, but I was still going strong haha. I didn't get very much sleep this weekend, but it was the best Halloween I had in a while and the clean up after didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be haha.

I made all the decorations except for that keep put banner between the rooms. lots of paper chains and bats.. strung some purple lights and lit a billion candles. switched out regular light bulbs for red ones, and black light ones too!

diggin' it

So yesterday was Halloween, and last night was my party! Lots of people showed up and I really could not have asked for a better turn out.. but I will post all on that later! The last people to leave my place last night was at like 5am, so today I was a bit tired but also had some post party cleaning to do so I pretty much just chilled around the apartment. I wore my hair big and curly for halloween, as I was inspired by Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver.. without the child prostitute part. I would have loved to come up with that little red number with the platforms and that cute top, but instead I was just pretty much me how I want to dress every day, with a bit more glitter and these big round glasses you see below. I got them at a Halloween store and I am really in love, I kind of want to wear them every day.

In the morning yesterday I want to Beacon's closet to do some trading.. again. I really am addicted to it! The feeling of getting free clothing (practically free) just overcomes me.. and there are so many goodies to dig through at the Willamsburg one. This sweet baseball tee I got there yesterday, totally diggin' it. I'v never been to Texas, but who cares! I have said before I'm sure, that although I love really old beautiful vintage fashions, my personal style always reverts back to the 70s, and I have been heavily influenced this weekend and will continue to be for the foreseeable future ;)

In less than 48 hours I will be in St. Louis! And I got the perfect rosie the riveter type jumpsuit yesterday at Beacon's as well, and I am totally ready to tie my hair up in a scarf and get to work digging through bales of vintage!!

Just another day with Jeremy running all over the place and eating out :) We were on a mission to find Jeremy's halloween costume, as well as get some decorations and thing because we are throwing a party on Halloween! I haven't had a Halloween party of my own since I was 12 haha, so I'm pretty excited to get to decorate and have people over for it. No one I knew was having one the day of, and I hadn't heard of any other plans, so I decided we should have a party here! I have already started some decorating, purple string lights around the living room, changing out some regular light bulbs for red ones. Still have webs and bats to hang around, but should probably wait till it gets a bit closer so the cats aren't tempted to tear it all down.

For our day out I wore this very seasonal thick plaid dress that I got at Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg with the bit of credit I still had left over from trading a month ago. Obviously,this isn't the kind of dress ya just throw on whenever year round, but right now it's an easy choice cause things have been getting chilly around here! Snow is in the forecast for saturday even! I can't even believe it. This cape has also been a go to every day, it's warm buut still light and always adds something interesting to an outfit.

Another little bit of news I haven't shared on here yet bit is coming up really soon.. on November 3rd I'm flying out to Donnaland warehouse headquarters in St. Louise Missouri!! She has hired my friend Courtney and I to come out for two weeks to rummage through unopened bales of clothing and help her sort her inventory!! I am super excited for several reasons.. never been to St. Louie before, haven't been on a plane in quite a few years, I love spending any amount of extended time with my dear lady friend Courtney, and of course... VINTAGE! I'm going to be getting paid in real money this time, ha, but will also be getting to take some some beauties, fresh out of the bale! So a week from today I will get on a plane and won't be back until the 15th! Hopefully I can blog a bit while I'm there, but things may get a bit slow around here.. well I mean continue to be slow since I'v been a bad blogger recently :P

Hair Tutorial: Pigtails!

So we got internet back here, so I was finaly able to finnish up my latest tutorial video and get it onto youtube, so here you have it! This look is cute 60s style pig tails and wont leave you looking like a kid! I was pretty much inspired by Bridget Bardot and other 60s babes who would wear their hair this way and still look damn hot! It's been a long time since I wore my hair in pigtails, and I was able to figure out a style that worked well for me and is really simple to do.

All you need is a brush, a comb, two hair elastics, and some strips of fabric for decoration (which is optional). Also handy is some hairspray if you wish, and some general rag curl knowledge.. which if you need a refresher check out my rag curl tutorial ! Otherwise, this is a really easy look to achieve.. I should know, this is they way I have been wearing my hair pretty much every day now since I started it haha.

So try it out, let me know how it goes! I would love to see photos of your new do! Also, if there are any other hair styles you would like to see me do, let me know :D

So remember back in the beginning of the summer when I was asked to style some outfits at a favorite nyc vintage store for the Japanese fashion magazine Jille? Well, they never sent me my copy of the issue, but they did finally get around to emailing me some images from it.. too bad these aren't the best quality either.. but whatevs. It is still pretty cool to see myself in a magazine, and with all the info for my blog and such.. I wonder what it all says though haha. It was a really fun experience and I'm glad I did it. It was fun going around The Family Jewels and putting together any outfit I wanted, they have some great stuff there.

Sleepy Hollow

So first let me just say it's good to be back! We haven't had internet in like a week, some connection issue, so I have had a lot to post about on here, but no means to do it! So let me start off with the trip I took this past weekend with my family.. this is going to be a very image heavy post with lots of photos of my little sister making weird faces.. cause she can't seem to smile nice ever. Me, my parents, my sister Madeline, my brother Taylor and his girlfriend Ashley crammed into my moms ford explorer and took a drive upstate to Sleepy Hollow! It's really a very quick drive, just about 25 minuets out of the city and such a nice little area along the Hudson.

First we went for a tour of the Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown, a really beautiful gothic castle mansion built in 1839 that was home to a few wealthy families of the industrial revolution up until 1961 when it became a historic site with the national trust. It was really amazing, and I wish we were allowed to take photos when we were inside. Nearly all of the walls and details of the ceiling and molding was all faux marble, wood and even leather. It was amazingly painted onto the surfaces with such detail and likeness, it was quite breathtaking. I want to live in that place. On the grounds is also the nations first steel-framed conservatory which is in the beginning stages of being restored. Although at it's current state I think it is still so beautiful, and I really want to head back up there soon to take some photos with my girl friends or something. It's so close to the city it will be very easy to just make a day trip of it.

Later that night we went on a night tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where we got to hold lanterns and walk around the massive and hilly cemetery for two hours. It was quite a walk, but fun, and at the highest point you can see Manhattan. I didn't take very many photos of the night walk, just a few random shots to try and catch some orbs haha.

It was a fun weekend and it was nice to get together with all my family, which hasen't happend much since both my brother and I moved out last year. My sister is in high school now, and it almost as tall as me! And now she's like turning into this real person and she totally seems to be getting into the same music as me.. It makes me a bit sad I'm not around for her more, but I'm happy to get to spend time with her when I do. She also let me rag her hair that night. haha.

Yesterday was another lovely day off with my boy. We went into the city to check out Occupy Wall Street.. but more on that later. We also walked around a bit and got a late lunch. We just kind of took it easy, it was a very chilly day, more so than I expected it to be! We had a couple of indian sumer days over the weekend, but now it is back to fall weather.

I went back to the Beacon's Closet in Park Slope on sunday to do some more trading. I went through my wardrobe and decided to get rid of some more things. I didn't have nearly as much this time to trade, but I did get almost $40 in credit, and I got this dress with some of that money! Another quick favorite in my vintage dress collection. It was missing the two buttons at the waist, which kind of sucks cause they are fabric covered buttons.. but I just replaced them with clear ones and no one is the wiser. I'm really into the shape, and the print.. I have kind of been wearing it every day :P

And I also found a new way to wear my hair!! I have been wanting to try pig tales again for a while, ala Bridget Bardot and other sexy full haired babes of the 60s. I was a bit unsure, since people already think I look 18. But I think the look is quite flattering, especially with a bit of teasing and adding some rag curls the night before to get some curly Q's. Expect to see in in pig tales a lot more from this day forward!

Jacques Henri Lartigue

About a year or more ago I came across a book at an antique store called Lartigue's Riviera, this was my first time experiencing Jacques Henri Lartigue's photographs. The book was quite out of my price range, but I was totally smitten with his photographs and how ahead of his time he seemed to be. The images really provoke something profound in it's viewers, with amazing lighting and feeling in each and every one of them. And amazing composition and great framing! My friend Ali recently sent me a link to this Livejournal, where I got all of these images from, and it just reminded me how much I love his work. I want to blow up all of these images and hang them from my walls. His work really makes me long for the past and how there was such beauty in every little thing.

Today was another beautiful day, as well as my day off with my boy Jeremy. We started it off by sleeping in nice and late, then eating some cinnamon buns and watching the last few episodes of the most current season of Mad Men. We have been re-watching it in preparation for the new season, due to air in January I think. Then we went out to this bar around the corner called Franklin Park to enjoy happy hour! They have this really nice outside area so we sat and talked a bit, a really nice afternoon! I have been really sick this past week, caught some sort of chest cold over the weekend and I am finally feeling a bit better so today was a nice departure from laying on the couch watching netflix all day!

This awesome dress I got from Donnaland in July when I helped Donna set up shop at Brimfield. I love it to death, it is perfect for fall and winter and fits just right. Also totally reminds me of something a secretary would wear in Mad Men or something. At first I was a bit afraid of it being too itchy to wear, wool can be like that sometimes. But it was perfectly comfortable. The shoes I also got from Donnaland, but on my last trip in September. I have been wearing them a whole lot, they are super comfortable and I don't have anything like them already.

Fall has definitely hit NYC, and I could not be happier about it! Finally it's time to break out the jackets and the layers and the hats and thigh highs. I know in a few months time I will be sick to death of wearing tights, but for right now it is a welcome return and easy way to spruce up any outfit. I need to work on building up my collection again because I tend to just discard them in the summer months because heck, who wants to think about tights in 90 degree weather?

I got this red beret last week from Beacon's closet with some of the credit I still have there from trading. When I was little I had quite the collection of berets actually, I guess my mom really liked me in them or something. Ones with big bows or flowers on the front, very kid in the 90's. Most of the ones I had were black, navy blue or dark green though, so bright red is a nice departure from that, and my first beret in probably 15 years. I like the color with my hair too, this will be my first fall/winter with dark hair since dying it in february and I am quite excited for it. I tend to feel very washed out in the cold months with blonde hair, so I'm excited for more of a warm feeling to my look.

I guess I was going for somewhat of a parisian look here, with the stripes and beret and all. This wonderful suede leather jacket I got at Beacon's Closet too, last year some time, it was like $40, but I got it in trade :) The striped sweater blouse was thrifted, as was these sweet red shoes that I never wear, but should more often. The skirt was from my best friend Ali and the thigh highs are from H&M I think. I am excited for more fall dressing, and the weather all this week is supposed to be beautiful and mild, can't wait for the leaves to change too!

So, I'v done it, I have gone and gotten and iPhone! Durring the week when Ashley was staying with me, my phone decided to up and break on me, simply not turning back on after a night of charging. So I was in the market for a new phone, and I decided it was high time I got with it and got one of these fancy pieces of machinery. And so being the visual maniac I am, I also got Instagram and started snapping away! pretty much when you can find on my page is the same kind of stuff you find here, flowers and cats haha. So I am currently on day two of my out of no where chest/head cold. I don't know what it is, but It came on really fast and I had to call out of work yesterday and today and I feel like garbage! But for a short period yesterday I felt well enough to make the short treck to the Brooklyn Flea for the first time! Probably wasn't my best first experience since I'm sick, and it had rained earlier that day so it was a bit slow there. But it was still nice to drop by and take a look around, and that's really all I could do cause I'm broke man!

new (to me) favorite dress

So last week I think I mentioned trading at the Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg, and how before I went there I went to the one in Park Slope, but left before I traded because it looked like they had no good vintage for me in return. Well after the Willyburg one, I still had two big bags to trade, so I figured I would give the Park Slope location another shot, if anything just to get cash. Well, it turns out I was a bit wrong about them not having anything vintage I would like. This store is much smaller, but also has much lower prices, and I came across plenty of vintage in the racks. It also gave me more of a thrift store feeling since there was so much modern clothing, it gave me that same thrill of coming across vintage at my local salvation army. I went to the dressing room with arms full of stuff, and had to turn things down in the end! And everything I came across was like $15 bucks!

This dress here being one of the beauties I found, maybe the best print and colors ever! And look at those sleeves! Can't get over them, and the fact that it fits so well too. And although I was trading, this dress was only $17! I think I will definitely be trading there again, since they seem to take a lot of stuff since their stock is much smaller. I also got this sweet Coach bag there, I dont care much for brand names, especially Coach but this bag is so perfect and simple and was only $18 (in trade of course).

Now onto the rest of my outfit, this orange and white gingham jacket you see here I got up in Maine last summer when I went with my mom and sister on a trip to Bar Harbor. We stopped at this little thrift shop on our way back that was having a fill a bag for $5 sale, my kind of place! Whoever owned this jacket before me sewed the closure shut, so it was like a dress. I was going to sell it, but once I realized I would just cut the stitching and it was back to a jacket, I kept it for myself. I thought it would look great with weird color combinations, like this! My boots I thrifted some time earlier this year, totally perfect and soooo comfortable. I wore these boots all weekend in July setting up Donnaland at Brimfield and my feet hardly bothered me.

They are really great, and fun to see live as Andrea is usually in a great costume giving a wonderful performance! Doors are at 9, Lost Boy is playing too, and I believe it is $10 at the door. 2nd anual nyfw blogger picnic

I'm going to go ahead and call this the second anual NYFW blogger picnic, since we had one of these last year in september, and personally I would like to keep the tradition going! I am sure you have all already seen photos from this day, especially these ones as I took them all from Liz and Ashley (and thanks again Ashley for letting me use all of you photos from your visit. Ashley's camera far surpasses mine!) But I am going to go ahead and share anyways! Last year this "little" picnic was organized by Rebecca and I remember when I read about it, and then found out I was off from work and would be able to attend.. well I was over excited! At this point I was still living on long island, so I took a train in and went by myself, even though I wasn't going to know anyone. It may be hard to believe, but most of these lovely ladies blogger friends only became my friends in the last year, and last years picnic really helped me to start some of these friendships.

Like I said a billion times, I love doing this blog because of the amazing stylish people I meet. They are 100% my inspiration, I hardly ever follow main stream fashion, and when I do it is through these blogs! Real girls with real style (vintage thrift store style to be exact) is the best thing since sliced bread, we are making this community for ourselves where you don't have to be a hard hitting fashionista to get by in this industry. Also, most bloggers are very humbled, and just as excited to meet you as you are to meet them, so it makes for lots of giggles and good times.

I can not wait to have one of these again, or maybe sometime a bit more intimate when february comes around for the next fashion week. Less girls tend to come out then, I suppose because of the weather. So maybe next time a nice dinner will do, but from here on out, I plan to put together a september picnic, all are welcome!

Oh yea, and this happend later that night.. late night karaoke at Trash Bar in Williasmburg. It starts after midnight, and we were only able to get a song or two in, but Liz and I rocked out to "dont stop me now" by Queen, and Ashley sang some beautiful Patsy Cline. That girl has a beautiful voice! She thought her voice was a bit raspy after a few long days here in nyc, but I thought she sounded just beautiful! And now I can not get karaoke off the brain! Who's down for round two?

So, all of a sudden I'm really into mini dresses. Back in high school and around then, practically every time I got a dress from a thrift store I would hem it into a mini. Skirts too, I just couldn't bring myself to wear stuff that hit below the knee, or even slightly above it for that matter.But then finally I stopped myself from cutting inches off the bottom of everything I got, because I saw the beauty in the original piece, and all that. But now I just have this sudden urge to wear all mini dresses, and low and behold, I hardly have any! So when I went to Beacon's Closet the other day to trade, I was on the hunt for something with a short hemline.

I came across this dress and just had to have it, I totally love the collar and the colors! I even took it up a few inches when I got it home haha. It is a tad too tight in the bust area, note the squishing.. so I may even end up selling it eventually if that causes me to not wear it as much as I would like to. Either way, I am off to a good start, and even picked up another mini for myself that day. I also need to replenish my tights and knee high collection, I tend to just throw tights away durring the warm months cause I can't stand to think of even wearing them!

Yesterday was quite a lovely day, Jeremy and I both had off from work together which I am always excited about. He works pretty long hours, so it is nice when we get a day off together, let alone two days in a row (today we are also off hehe) So we took a trip into Williamsburg to go to Beacon's closet to do some trading. I recently went through all my clothes, as well as stuff I had sitting around for the shop but never listed, and a few items that were in my shop that were just not selling. In the end I had a stuffed wheely grandma cart and another tote bag filled with stuff to trade. The other day I remembered how there is a Park Slope location, and after luggin all that stuff there by myself, I came to realize that location did not have very much stuff, and hardly any vintage.. so I took my bags and decided to go to the WillyB one first. I ended up getting like $140 in trade, and still have $50 left after getting two shirts for Jeremy and 4 dresses! I still have a whole bunch they didn't take, so I think I am going to give the Park Slope store another go, so at least Jeremy can use my credit there. Oh, did I mention you can only use the credit at the store you trade at? Thats why I took my stuff and left, lame!

After dropping off my stuff for them to go through (normally I would have liked to be present for the trade, but hunger was calling) we wentt to go get some food at Bad Burger on Grand. They have a wide selection of vegan/veggie stuff.. so good!! I got this swiss and ham stuffed french toast!!! Dear lord, I can not even begin to tell you how delish it was! I highly recommend the place, breakfast all day long!

The weather here in NY this past week has just been perfect light jacket/sweater fall weather, it came in very suddenly and decided to stick around for a while to the delight of New Yorkers everywhere. I took full advantage by wearing this lovely green velvet dress. It is hard to see in these photos, but it is a lovely shade of dark green, with cute lace sleeves. I got this dress in Western MA on a trip up to see my friends last year. We stopped at a yard sale right outside of North Hampton I think it was, and I got this dress and another I sold a while back for $5 each!! The lady who sold them to me was the original owner of the dresses who said they had been in storage in her attic since 1968 when she wore them for like a graduation and a wedding. She asked that I take good care of them, I told her they would be loved unconditionally! This cape I got off etsy last fall and hardly got the chance to wear before it good too cold for even this. So I have been wearing it pretty much every day since this cool weather came in. The sheer thigh highs are from victoria secret, being held up by a garter belt from Target hehe. And the shoes, as I'm sure you all know by now, were thrifted years ago, probably one of my most favorite pairs as they pretty much go with anything.

Last week I had the ultimate pleasure of shooting some beautiful photos in Prospect Park durring the golden hour with Anna li and Ashley. We got all dolled up in our best matching outfits, rosy cheeks and flower crowns and headed over to the park for some rolling around and running and spinning.. just like children hehe. There were some families around with little girls who all seemed curious as to what we were doing. One girl asked "are they little girls?" and another one joined us in some spinning till we got dizzy for a photo. She asked if we were in school too, because she just started first grade.

I love working with Anna, as soon as it is time to start shooting she really gets down to business and knows what she wants in a photo. I like working for a photographer who knows what they want and isn't afraid to give good direction to get the right feel. I am sure more girlie photo times with Anna wil be taking place in the future, I love my friends :) All the photos above are also film by the way, which I really admire and support.. as film photography is really suddenly becoming a dying art. I knew digital has already taken over, but many places won't even develope film anymore.. mind boggling.. And the photos below are all by Anna via Instagram. Back to my fashion week coverage and back to last friday night! After the LuLu's brunch in the morning, a full and fun night was ahead of us. After a costume change Ashley and I went out to eat at the Trailer Park Lounge in Chelsea and it was a blast! We went during happy hour so there were yummy $5 mango margaritas and some grilled cheese and sweet potato fries. The place is totally kitschy with awesome decorations and with a menu that consists of sloppy joe's and chili cheese dogs. I used to see this place all the time when I went to FIT, but never got the chance to go until that night. I will definitely have to go again, I want to try the sloppy joe! Any ladies want to join?

After that we headed to the blogger ModSwap, a super fun shindig put on by Swap.com and Modcloth! I was most excited for this event, clothing swaps like this never happen in NY for some reason, I always hear of them going on in Boston and Philly, but never here! We were asked to bring two items to swap, and in return we got to choose a Modcloth dress as well as something from the racks of clothes other girls brought to swap. I don't really need more clothes right now, I have three HUGE bags of stuff to trade at Beacon's Closet! But I was excited for the change to get a new Modcloth dress, I hardly ever get anything new anymore, and they have some cute stuff. But they also has some choice vintage pieces in there, and a vintage dress is what I ended up choosing hehe. What can I say, once a vintage gal, always a vintage gal.

Some great ladies came out for the event, like Liz and Hannah (or as I called her all weekend "Hannah Heart City" since we had more than one Hannah in our group) and even Anna and Leah made it out for the end. Photos are mostly all from Ashley and a few from the Modcloth event flickr.

Oh, and later that night a dance party ensued at this new club at Webster Hall called "Hanky Panky" where we danced the night away! I'm sure bad (good) photos of that night will be surfacing soon. Good times, good times.

killer of roses

Only a few days after I took these photos I killed this rose bush.. Try and try as I might.. I just do not have a green thumb and I can not keep plants alive. Especially when it comes to roses ad succulents (but to be fair, half of the previous deaths have been due to my dumb cats!) I got this pretty little rose bush from Trader Joe's right before I left to go to western MA. I have been wanting to get one for so long now, and I figured now that we are settled it was time to get another plant. So pretty isn't it? Jeremy was able to keep the thing alive while I was away.. and not two days after being home it is dead!!! I guess I will just have to look at these pictures when I feel like looking at something pretty.. and then look at the dead rose bush still sitting on my window sill to remind me to stop buying plants because it will only result in their death!

So, back to my fashion week coverage.. last friday was the only day that we really felt like part of fashion week. We are only style bloggers, not big in mainstream fashion or anything so I don't usually expect to be invited to anything. I just like all the girls being in town, and hanging out outside of the tents or something and acting like I belong hehe. But friday we had some events lined up, starting early with a LuLu's blogger brunch.. which I wasn't even exactly invited to! Ashley was though, and she took me as her guest. I thought it would be a bit on the bigger side, seeing as you could bring a +1.. but nope it was rather small, and made me feel even more like I wasn't supposed to be there.

But after loading up my plate from the buffet with eggs and yummy potatoes and BACON and sitting down at the long table to chat with some of these lovely ladies, I felt at ease and right at home among other bloggers, some of who I have been following for a while now. I was most excited to get to meet Julie! I have been reading her blog for probably about a year now? and I always felt like her and I would get along, plus she has two cats that look like the short hair version of mine..so that means we have some kind of special connection. All the girls were really down to earth and cool, it was a quick little gathering, as a lof of the other girls had real things to do, but I'm really glad I got to go!

After that Ashley and I did some wondering around soho and then headed back to my neck of the woods for some resting up and a costume change for the nights events.. and boy was that night eventful! But more on that later.. As far as what I wore to the blogger brunch, this is a pretty good example of how I go from pretty vintage lady one day, so a bit more dark and "trendy" the next. Well I don't know if this look is terribly trendy, but something about wearing separates and these Blowfish platforms makes me feel this way. Everything but those shoes is vintage, I got this super awesome red cropped top jacket thing at Brimfield back in May, I bought it from a vendor for like $15 I think.. I love it so much. It is suppose to button at the waist too, but I soaked it when I got it home and it shrunk a bit.. man do I need a steamer! (Ashley told me a little helpful hint I did not know.. when your vintage shrinks from soaking.. which it does.. just take a steamer to it to help get the garment back in shape!) The lace cropped top under that was from an estate sale back in the spring, it is a little girls victorian top.. and a bit tight on me.. but I love it. The black victorian cotton slip I just got from Donnaland on my last visit, I also have one in white with a ruffle at the hem!

Oh! And my necklace, it is a little gold heart with the name "Hazel" hard carved into it, like DIY style. it also has a little cross and virgin mary charm on it, I ain't religious or anything, but I love this necklace. I got this at like the second estate sale I ever went to in queens. I went with my mother in the early morning and left with some great stuff that day. This necklace almost makes me want to name my future daughter Hazel just so I can give it to her and it can have some significance to it again. I got it from one family, but i would like to turn it into my own family heirloom.

There is still a great deal of last week to cover here, but let me take a little break from that to show you some photos I snapped of Donnaland upon completion on the first day of the fair. Set up for Donnaland takes all weekend and then some. This go around it wasn't as hot as in july but it sure is a lot of work, but I love doing it. Look at this place! it is huge and we set all this up! I moved those rolling racks 5 billion times, I hung those pretty clothes from the high beams, I helped organize and make sense of the craziness that is Donnaland!

I really love doing it, it is very rewarding and plus the whole time I get to stay with and work with my good friend Courtney. We are super alike in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to work ethic, so we pull together and get the job done without getting sick of one another, heh! Donna and her assistant Molly are fun and kind and really appreciate the hard work we do to help get Donnaland all set up and ready to open for that first dat at 6am. A trip is in the works for the two of us to fly down to St. Louie at the beginning of November to help go through tons of unopened bales of clothing at the Donnaland warehouse! So exciting! I know it will be hard work, but how fun will it be to open a huge bale of clothing, that has been that way for years and to not know what is inside!? And then just dig and pick out the gems, and a few for ourselves!

The past three Brimfields of this season I have worked for trade, while setting up if we see something we like we just kind of set it aside in a box, and at the end our hours are calculated and the loot is ours! Donna really is so kind, she has never turned down an item for me to take yet, no matter how beautiful it might be! I now have some amazing items in my closet, as well as things for my shop! Thanks Donna for an amazing experience, and lovely vintage!!

WOW! racks of $10 and $20 clothing, she has some amazing stuff in there, most of the items I usually choose to take home for myself are from these racks. I love vendors with good prices.

Donna is helping a woman named Carroll Anne sell her collection of vintage clothing that she has been collecting for years and years! She is in her 70s and has everything from civil war era to the 50s.. let me tell you, the most amazing stuff I have ever seen... and this is only a small portion of it! Just getting to touch stuff like this pays off for all the hard work. Beautiful.

This girl has quite a personal collection of thrift store goodies, and the same love goes into her shop. And she works hard all week long for Donna! I just go for the set up before, Courtney helps out all week, and break it down at the end. Girl Power!

Thursday night was Fashion's Night Out where shops and businesses all over manhattan and the other boroughs hold small (or large) parties, have giveaways and discounts on most merchandise. There is also free drinks and snacks, which was my main reason for wanting to attend! I had never gone out for FNO before, but I knew it would get a bit crazy in places like SOHO and 5th ave.. but I kind of wanted to experience the craziness anyway. Our plans were to start the night in Greenpoint Brooklyn at Dalaga, the same shop I attended in July for their 5 year anniversary party, and then make our way into SOHO... but all my great lady friends were at this party, and we stayed a bit longer than expected.. so the night turned into a Williamsburg hang out with these lovely gals, Hannah, Siri, Frankie, Liz and Ashley!

It was a seriously beautiful night out, walking over to Williasmburg with this gaggle of pretty girls was maybe the highlight of the night ;) but that is only mostly because when we got to Bird the free grilled cheese from the grilled cheese truck we had been promised had run out! So sad, Ashley and I had to get grilled cheese the next day when we went out to eat because we were still craving it so bad. It was really a fun time, I'm glad we kept it low key in Brooklyn, and although it would have been kind of fun to see the madness in Manhattan.. that's not really my kind of thing, and I get claustrophobic sometimes.

The dress I'm wearing here is the one I got out with Ashley the other day in Park Slope from Guvnor's Vintage when we were on our brownstone tour. I love it to death, I saw it in the shop a few weeks ago, and had to leave it behind. It is all I could think about, and when we stopped back in I imediatly went to see if it was still there. And to my delight, it was! So I had to get it, I know that when something stays on my mind like that I really love it. And I can see myself wearing this dress like every day if someone dosen't stop me! There was also a REALLY beautiful strapless dress I loved, a bit more fancy but a dream! I might just have to go back and get that one sometime!

There has been so much going on, I'm falling a bit behind on this blog! Ashley is still in town and we have been having quite a bit of fun, but very exhausting days! Our schedule wasn't really too full of events or any real plans, but we sure have been doing a lot of walking and exploring. These photos are from thursday when Ashley and I walked into Park Slope for some photos fun times, shopping and fooooooood! If anything, her trip to new york has been a tour of great places to eat and drink! We stopped in some vintage shops and both ended up getting new (to us) vintage dresses.

Still to come, photos from Fashions night out, then photos from friday our only full day with real events starting with a Lulu's blogger brunch in the morning, Modcloth Swap in the evening, and dancing our clothes off (literally) at webster hall later that night. Yesterday we had our style blogger picnic Which had a great turn out and the weather was beautiful all the while! Stay tuned!

Oh yea, you might want to know about my outfit here, my blouse and shoes I just got from Donnaland on my most recent trip to help Donna set up her tent at Brimfield, I also have photos from that I need to post! I totally love these shoes to death! While we were up there, Donna met up with this lady in CT to get some dresses and shoes from her. Donna is constantly buying and selling her way around the world! And this lady just happend to be the same shoe size as me! So when we got all her stuff in, it was really hard not to set all of them aside for myself, but in the end I went with these because I have nothing like them, and they are way comfy! My skirt I got from my friend Ali, and the market bag is thrifted.

New York is getting Fancy FIne!

So the time has come, Fashion Week has begun, and I can not think of a better companion for the weeks festivaties than the lovely Ashley of Fancy Fine! This past weekend I was up in Brimfield helping Donnaland set up shop one last time for the season, lots of work and heavy lifting, but also lots of lovely vintage for me to take home! Now that I live in Brooklyn, I took the Megabus up there... never again! On my trip up there we were an hour late, and taking the 9pm bus back was the worst! The bus didn't show up until 10:30, leaving me to get home around 2:30am!

Ashley took a plane in late that night too and ended up getting to my place before me! ha, so my boyfriend Jeremy actually got to meet Ashley before I even did! But how nice it was to come home to. The three of us stayed up till like 4am taking about all kinds of things. I am totally excited to have her staying with me, Ashley planned her trip out here for fashion week a few months back, but some plans changed, and now she is staying with week with me, like a dream come true :) I love blogging mostly because I love meeting other girls with great style and personalities. Ashley has always felt like a good friend since we first started corresponding through emails and such, I am glad to get to finally meet her in person. But it does make me sad, having all these great ladies in town for fashion week, cause I know it is only temporary and I can't have them in my life all the time. So I will just have to savor this short time together, and what a great time we will have. There are no fashion shows we are going to, but we have quite a busy schedule for the next few days, Including a very Stylish Picnic on saturday, if you are in town, come on by!

This top I'm wearing here was given to me by Ashley as a little gift for letting her stay with us. She knows me too well, I'm always a sucker for a good cropped top, and this one is just too cute! The high waisted pants belonged to my brothers girlfriends grandmother, and I took them in a bit on the sides to fit. The shoes were thrifted a long while back and are alway my go to pair of flats. And the umbrella I think I got at an estate sale last summer. It has definitely come in handy there last two days since it has been raining on and off like crazy!

Today Ashley and I plan on walking into Park Slope and exploring a bit, then crazy Fashion's Night Out plans tonight! I have never partook in it before, I'm not big on buying new clothing, especially stuff out of my price range. But free snacks and drinks sound fun, as well as getting dressed up and running around with city with cute girls. So I'm giving it a go this time around and I think it will be quite a night!

The Highline

Wednesday Jeremy and I both had off work together, and on days when this happens I suppose we are kind of making it a date night :) I wanted to go to The Highline since I first heard of it's plans back in like 2006, but never got the chance to go until now! The northern half of the park only just openend this past spring, making it about 18 blocks long. Pre 1930's Tenth Avenue was known as "Death Avenue" because of all the accidents between the freight trains and street level traffic that both ran along the road. In the early 30s plans for the West side Improvement Project included The Highline which would take train traffic off the street and rise it above, between blocks going right into warehouses and factories so businesses could get their deliveries without ever disrupting street traffic. The Highline was used until the 1980's, and then went unused for years. I think turning The Highline into a park was the best idea ever. It really is unlike any other park, I highly recommend checking it out if ever you are in the area.

So, after our walk in the park we went to go get some food at Red Bamboo. Boy, was it delish, I really love date nights, and my loving boyfriend who is willing to pay for it all :) And now I'm about to go away until late tuesday night and leave Jeremy here in Brooklyn. We have been re-watching Mad Men, and recently watched the episode where all of the ladies and wives have gone away for the weekend, and the men are all left bachelors to their own devices. Jeremy is going to be like my little Pete Campbell, except he better not seduce the Au Pair next door!

museum of natural history

Last week on Tuesday while Chris and Courtney were still in town we took them to the Museum of Natural History on one of the nicest weather days we have had here all summer. The Humidity was gone, the sun was shinning, and we did a bit of walking and I don't think I ever broke a sweat! It had been a bit over a year since Jeremy and I had last been to the museum, and a much longer time for Chris and Courtney. My favorite exhibits are the Hall of Gems and the Hall of Biodiversity! It was nice looking around with some friends, we were even there when that earthquake hit! Well, we didn't know about it for like 3 hours after, cause we didn't even feel it in there. Which is kind of a bummer, cause I have never experienced one before. An earthquake and hurricane all in one week.. damn!

So after wandering about the museum, we took a walk to central park and found a nice little nook in a rock and sat for a while and took in the nice day. After that we went to go get some lunch, and then headed back to Brooklyn after that. That was their last night in town, and we decided to just stay in and make some snacks and and just enjoy each other. Those country mice were not so used to big city walking, and after doing quite a bit of it that day and the one before, we were all pooped. It was really great having them in town, I can only hope their next visit is longer than 2 days!

Right now I am hunkering down with Jeremy and getting ready for this hurricane thats about to hit tonight! Cooking corn bread and vegan chili, stocked up on water and TP, got a billion tea lights for in case the power goes out.. it's supposed to get pretty bad.. So thoughts of a lovely summer time picnic in central park with other stylish ladies is keeping me going right now! This time next week I will be eating something delicious and giggling with afternoon away at this blogger meet up for NYFW. I suppose it would be the second anual one now, since we did this last year too, although last time Rebecca of The Clothes Horse was the main organizer of this event. This year the shindig was also put together by Ashley of Fancy Fine (a soul sister I will finally get to meet in person!) and Erin of Calivintage. So if you are in town september 10th, come on by! What is your favorite fashion era?
I'm kind of obsessed with nineties culture in general. I gravitate towards the darker grungier stuff for myself. Think Winona Ryder in Reality Bites.

What inspires you and influences you when looking for items for your shop?
I find a lot of inspiration from fashion and street style blogs. Its fun trying to recreate looks I've seen. Living in California is also a huge influence on my aesthetic. I'm always surrounded by amazing people, colors, weather...you get the idea.

Favorite piece from your shop? and how you would wear it?
Currently my favorite item is the teal 70s draped cape sleeve dress I think the length is perfect to pair with chunky platforms.

Best vintage find?
Most of my personal favorite finds are vintage photographs and posters, but since this is a fashion blog and all....I'd have to say the 1970's French snakeskin platforms I found at Wasteland in San Fransisco. They make my feet feel weird cos they're so heavy. I love them!!

friends in town

The last two days Jeremy and I had our friends Courtney
and Chris as house guests. They are from western Massachusetts and are wonderful enough to have let me stay with them countless times over the last year an a half. We had yet to have them come stay with us, mostly because we were living on Long Island and there was really no reason to come out there and nothing for us to take them to do. I was more than excited to learn they were taking a trip down to Philly, and stopping here for two days on the way. It was a really quick trip, too quick! But we had a lot of fun, there is always a lot of fun to be had with those two!

This was on the first day they got here, we took a talk with to Park Slope to show them the area and gett some lunch. Courtney was a vision in this vintage dress, something like $5 from the goodwill? And look at that amazing necklace! She got it from Donnaland! If I thought I had a lot of clothes, Courtney has to have at least double from what I have! She is like the vintage goodwill queen! New England man, I'm tellin' ya, they got the best vintage for the best prices. The dress I'm wearing is also from Donnaland, when I was up there in July working to set up her tent, Courtney and I had our own boxes of stuff we were holding for ourselves, and at some point I put this dress in her box. So I only just got it back from her this day so I had to put it on! Fits like a dream and I love the color. This is like the 5th vintage dress I own now with this shape, I really dig it!

Jazz Age Lawn Party

Sunday I went to the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island, and it was amazing! I had plans to make it a big lady fest and have a bunch of girly friends, but in the end it was just the ever so lovely Alley O'Shea. And I could not have asked for a better companion, she's such a great vintage dresser, super funny and full of conversation. I think most of the day we talked about crazy ex boyfriends and the type of people we were in high school.. definitely not the same people we are today, ha!

Sunday was the second day of the lawn party, and from what Alley told me, the super less crowded day (she was there the day before too for her job at Stylelikeu) where the lines for drinkes weren't an hour long. And thank the gods, cause Alley had this drinks all day pass thing, and it allowed her to get us both drinks all day! Mostly we just lounged on our blanket, walked around and did some dancing. Rain was in the forecast for the afternoon, but luckily it held out for most of the day. But not long enough, the photos of me on the dance floor is literally right before it started down pouring! Everyone started running for shelter. We went to grab our blanket, and run for cover in a near by building, as you can see below. Also notice in the post rain photos my dress is about 3 inches shorter from the rain! I don't know if it is going to stay that way, but I don't mind all too much.

Speaking of this dress, isn't it just amazing!? I got it at a private estate sale showing on long island about two years ago. I was looking around on craigslist for estate sales and I came across a family owned farm on the island where they had their house on one side of the street, and their farm on the other. The granddaughter and her mother were putting on a tag sale in a few weeks, but doing private showings by appointment before then. So I had the whole house to myself, and this was just one of the amazing things I got that day. It has been hanging in my closet since then, with nothing fancy enough to wear it to. I felt this was the perfect time, and the hat I got on etsy a few months back pretty much with this event in mind. Hannah, although she could not make it that day, was nice enough to do my hair for me!

Flowers from the farmers market last week. I really like the windowsills here, they are wide enough to put things on and sit on. Human or cat! I have a lot of exciting things coming up in this next month. On Sunday friends Courtney Hall and her boy Chris are coming to stay with us, which I am over the moon excited for. I have stayed with them more times than I can count on one hand, and they have always been the most loving and gracious hosts. Jeremy and I are excited for the chance to have them as guests and to go out and have fun around the city! Then the weekend after that it is back to Brimfield, MA for the last show of the season! I can not believe I went up for all three this year. I will be taking a bus this time.. we will see how that goes.

Then right after I get back a billion and one great blogger ladies are gonna be in town for fashion week, and I made sure to take off work so that I get the chance to hang out, and for some finally meet for the first time, with all the lovely ladies. By the end of all that it will be the middle of september, and I can not be more excited for fall and city dressing in this lovely season!

Just a little photo booth outfit shot up against my still bare bedroom walls. It is really hard to totally unpack and decorate when you don't have all of your furniture yet. We are picking up a dresser tomorrow, and then I can really start to decorate our bedroom. I want to try and get this place in order by the end of the week, as best I can at least. We still need some sort of a kitchen hutch/pantree so my pretty breakable kitchen things have to stay in boxes till then.

Tonight I plan to go over to Hannah and Landon's for some quality time and maybe some drawing as well! Hannah is a lovely illustrator, and I told her she needs to draw more! So she invited me over for some drawing and stuff, It has been a long time since a drew anything either.. I mostly just feel uninspired when I pick up a pencil.. so we will see what comes of it.

I'm wearing a thrifted cropped top that I have had for years now and love dearly.. but hardly ever wear, ha! Some high waisted black pants that used to belong to my friends grandmother that I took in at the sides to make them fit better. And the flats were a hand-me-down from my friend Courtney who will be visiting us with her boy this time next week! I stay with Courtney and Chris all the time in western MA (and will be once more at the beginning of september for the last Brimfield of the season) and they are so hospitable and kind, Jeremy and I are excited for the chance to play host to them and have fun around the city with some good friends.

And like my pony tail? I hardly ever wear them, but I'm feeling a bit rockabilly and I think it fits with this outfit. Plus it makes my hair look super long!

union square farmers market

Today is a beautiful day, perfect for visiting the Union Square farmers market that takes place every weekend. It is huge! vendor after vendor selling fresh produce, eggs, cheese, baked goods, flowers and herbs. So many people! It was quite crowded, but it is really fun to go to and see that all this locally grown stuff is available.

I went mainly with intentions of buying some flowers and a hanging plant or two. I was looking for a good place, and the farmers market was suggested to me by a few people, for the wide selection, good prices and the chance to support local/small businesses. The vendor I bought the flowers from had sooo many beautiful flowers to choose from, it was really hard to pick! I also ended up getting a small hanging plant called a "bolivian jew" ha. And that is just to start my collection, I hope to get some more hanging plants and succulents and things being that I have some nice windowsills to put them in. I just hope my cats leave them alone!

This post is to celebrate the start of something wonderful! The lovely lady behind The Snail and the Cyclops has shut the doors on that project to broaden her horizons and move onto bigger and better things. I first met Francesca back in 2007 through her flickr (which I'm sad to say will also go silent.. though I sure hope she keeps it around, cause I gather a lot of inspiration from her archives!) and have always been in awe of her various vintage collections, be it clothing, stuffed animals or her grandmothers beauty supplies. This girl knows how to make a vintage lover swoon, and so it comes as no surprise that her latest endeavor Lawrence will have you weak in the knees over her carefully curated and handpicked with love vintage pieces for sale.

Now based out of Brooklyn, Francesca will now be offering the same amazing style out of her new corner of the internet, where you will find small batches of carefully thought out pieces that have been washed and mended before they make their way to their new homes. At Lawrence you can also find a photo journal filled with photos by the lovely and talented Amy Merrick, among other great things to come. What a dream duo, huh?! I am super excited for this new endeavor and will be sure to stick around and watch Lawrence grow into the amazing online shop I know it will be.

First flowers in our new place! Some lovely little roses to start, I need to build up my dried flower collection since getting rid of all my old ones, and roses are the perfect place to start. They dry to well and really keep their color.. now I just need to choose where to hang them!

Sorry things have been dead quiet around here! We still don't have internet at our new place, so right now Im sitting in The Breukelen Coffee Shop right down the road from my place, taking advantage of their internet and AC and eating a delish croissant and drinking some iced coffee! I have to say, I am really really happy with my new neighborhood, when I found our place I really didn't know Crown Heights/Prospect Heights at all, but I really dig it! We are living on the kind of border of a less desirable area, but a short walk and you are surrounded by coffee shops, bars, restaurants and store. We are right near Prospect Park, which I still have yet to explore, and right to the west of that the brownstones are picture perfect! Like for real, Jeremy and I took a walk last night to get dinner, and every block I'm like "Look how cute that place is!" "look at those windows, the doors.. I bet all these folks have backyards too!" I would really like to stay in this area, move a bit more west after our lease is up maybe.. this place is a secret gem that I'm not gonna let get away!

Last night we chose a vegan restaurant in the area at random (Jeremy just got himself an iphone, and we are taking full advantage of the "veg out" app) and I chose The V Spot... If ever you are in the area.. GO THERE!! It was so good, and fresh and everything on the menu is vegan, everything!! We went from living on Long Island and only having ethnic foods such as indian of thai as our options from dining out, or some place that has one vegan/vegetarian choice.. to this!! I mean, I am not vegan, my boyfriend is, but this means a lot to me too, It sets Jeremy in a different mood when he can look at a menu and pick anything he wants, not having to read the ingredients to make sure there is no hint of dairy or something. It was a really good night, a sort of silent celebration of where we are and where we are going. Not to get all mushy, but I really love that guy, and we are so happy together, here in our new place in a great neighborhood with our two cats and the future ahead of us. We hardly get to go on real dates, so it felt special to us last night :)

Today I was off from work, and was supposed to be doing more packing than I did.. but I did a little, and I got a few things for our new place, and stopped at the post office. So it was a semi productive day. I have some vegan chili cooking right now, gonna be ready when Jeremy gets home at 6, what a good girlfriend I am :)

This necklace is the only thing I actually bought at the Brimfield antique fair when I went up earlier this month. I was only there the weekend before the show started, and I wasn't planning on buying anything, but the tent next to ours had all these BEAUTIFUL indian things, jewelry and rugs and baskets.. all handmade and so lovely! I stopped to take a look one day, said I was working next door and I asked the price. The guy said "for you.. $12!" I'm not sure if it was my good looks or the fact that I was a worker setting up tent right next door, but It was a deal! It was hard to choose which one, as they were all as beautiful as this one. I am not that big on jewelry and I hardly wear any, but I do want to start geting some more statement necklaces, and this one sure does the trick. If the beautiful blue stones don't get your attention, the jingling will!

The rest of this outfit is very simple, thrifted cropped top that goes well with many skirts, and this navy blue skort I thrifted in SC 2 years ago. Last summer and the one before this skort was a go to item, and I made sure to leave it out for my last days on LI while packing up everything else. The shoes I think have made an appearance on here before too, these babies have been with me for like 4 years, and they are so falling appart, but so comfy! I need to invest in a new pair of woven leather flats, I just hate that break-in period!

Last night Jeremy and I had a little going away party in our backyard and it had quite the turn out! I would say about 30 people at one point, which is the biggest party we ever had. Everyone really wanted to come out and hang one last time before we left, mostly TJ's people. I really can say that those people are like a family to me sometimes,I have been working at Trader Joe's for quite some years, and have always made friends out of my crew mates. I'm gonna miss seeing them every day.

Before the party really got started Ali and I had a little photo shoot, and she even let me get some photos of her! She always has the best pins and trinkets, and how cute are her little denim cut offs. Ali is planning a move to Washington state later this year.. I'm going to be sad! But I will have a best friend in the woods who I can go visit now and then, when I need to get out of the city.

Since I have had most of my clothing packed up since last week, I left out a select few dresses, mainly new Donnaland dresses so I could force myself to wear them haha. Not like I need the forcing or anything, they are all so cute, but it's fun to only have to work with like 10 things, when I'm so used to like 10 dozen! This dress is obviously one of those dresses, I really love the color and the cute ruffle detail that make a simple cut dress like this really stand out. I have been all about just throwing on a cute vintage dress recently, and not much else. It's nice to not really have to think about it durring the summer.

I know things have been a bit quiet around here, at this point I have most of my clothing packed, pretty much all of our books, now I'm moving onto the breakable things! Packing sucks, but moving is exciting! And now there is only a little over a week before we move, next wednesday we are having a little going away party.. it's all really happing!

So since I don't have much to post on here these days, what with the being real busy and the CRAZY "heat dome" we have been experiencing (something like 111 with the heat index today.. yikes!) I figured I would do another one of these photobooth photo posts! The last time I did this was back in February as sort of 2010 recap post and I thought it was fun. This my friends, is my new favorite dress! It is just one of the many I got from helping Donnaland set up shop at Brimfield this past weekend. I have been wearing it just about every day, for at least a bit. It fits like a dream and I absolutely love the color and pattern. And it is also just so well made! the way the pattern lines up at the neckline and sleeves, I do believe it was handmade. The only problem is it has no slit, so I can't walk as fast as I normally do, and I need to lift the skirt a bit when i walk up stairs. But thats okay, when the fall comes and I need to wear hoes I can flash a bit of garter ;)

These shoes I got at the salvo, one all the way out east on the island that I hardly go to. I think it may have been my first time there and I came across these shoes, I think they were like 3 bucks or something. For all the times I can't afford things, or I let them get away, it's things like this that all those times worth it. All the hunting and digging I do sometimes, but I really do love it :)

Yesterday was a big, great amazing fun day. To start things off... I FOUND AN APARTMENT! Big news everybody! So totally excited, it's beautiful, an big old pre-war building with the most beautiful lobby I have ever seen. A one bedroom with lots of space, and right off the sunway Jeremy takes to work. And it's also a block away from the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It's in Crown Heights, which is a bit further out than we were looking, but we love it. We move in August 1st! I started packing my clothes today.. so far a bit over 200 items in boxes, still got a bunch of dresses to go, as well as the 150+ items I have for my shop... oy! Luckily this new place has FIVE CLOSETS!!

So later in the evening was the Dalaga 5 year anniversary party that I was invited to by my friend Liz who works there. Not only has this lovely boutique been open for business for 5 whole years, but they also launched a new fragrance of the same namesake, we tired it on, it smells wonderful! I got to meet Michelle and Mary, the sisters behind the shop, they were both so friendly and I could tell really beaming with the outcome of the night! There were cocktails and bacon cupcakes (!) and lots of pretty things on the rack for sale.

Dalaga stocks a lot of great designers, big and small, including the lovely designs by Alexandra Grecco who was sporting some killer sparkly Miu Miu heals she scored on ebay for under $100! And according to Hannah they will soon they will be carrying The Loved One as well! So if you are in the Greenpoint area (which I hadn't been to in a while and it has really grown! bars and restaurants and shops popping up on every corner! too bad hardly any subways run through there..) you should really stop by. The shop is decorated so lovely, with fresh, fake and glass flowers everywhere.

Later I went with Hannah and Landon to grab some late night pizza and discuss all the different things we are going to do once I'm living near by. Beaches and slumber parties and parks.. you name it. I really can't wait to be living closer to my friends, I feel so disconnected out here on LI sometimes. I am so ready for change, and I can feel it in the hot muggy air!

PS, this dress is one that I got in trade from Donnaland, just one of the many new dresses now in my wardrobe, and lets not forget all the ones I have for my shop! Plan to meet up with Hannah next week to get some photos of them so I can try to list them before the move!

I'm still alive! Things have been a bit busy here, I just got back the other day from being up in western MA all weekend before the July Brimfield fair starts. I was helping Donnaland set up shop for three days straight in hot muggy days! I was basically wearing as little as possible, covered in sweat and dirt and doing lots of heavy lifting! But I worked for trade and made out like a bandit with all the wonderful vintage duds I have! Some new favorite dresses for me, and LOTS for the shop.. once I get around to taking photos and all that.

So here you have some shots from my second roll of film. Flowers and sunset and kitten legs under the coffee table. You know, the usual! The last few photos are from the 4th of july sunset, man was it beautiful!! I hope you all are having a wonderful summer, sorry I have been so bad this month! I haven't even been that insanely busy, but blogging is just second string right now while I get my whole life together to plan a move. Photos from the 4th of july! For the first time in a long time, Independence day kind of ment something to me. Partly because I have really gotten into american history this year, and so I know what americas independence means and how many people died and fought for the "rights" we have today. To be frank, I am not thrilled with america and american culture today.. but back then people were really fighting for something, plus the Theobalds have been in the states for a couple of hundred years, so I yea. But mostly I cared about the 4th this year because I had some real solid plans for the first time in a while, and with some really great people too!

Also something to celebrate, the birthday of Liz of Olive, My Love is the same day as this splendid holiday, and she was having a little party. Luckily I met Liz a few weeks before that at the blogger meet up, so I was invited and so happy to be spending her birthday with her! She is really so super sweet and funny and goofy, and she appreciated my birthday gift to her of glitter hairspray hehe. Also in tow was Anna Li, the wonderful gal behind all of these photos. We had fun getting tipsy off beer (in my case, Trader Jose, our cheap and delish Corono knock-off) and devoured some watermelon while taking some fun photos. There was also lots of delicious, and mostly vegan food to eat, and great people to talk to. Pretty much everyone showed up in red white or blue, or all of the above! It was fun to be with a festive bunch! When the sun was setting (and boy what a beautiful sunset! I have some film photos of it!) we went down to the water to watch the fireworks on the hudson. It was really a very fun night!

Some details about my outfit, I thrifted this awesome dress last week, first with intentions to sell (It was like the 90s took over that day!) but then I got home and tried it on and I was like.. I think I'm gona keep this for a bit! It fits real nice and I just love an open back!! The platforms are Blowfish, and If you look closely I tried something new with my hair. Well, not really new, it's the same kind of swirl I do in my up-do, but this time just with my bangs. I really dig it, all week long I have been playing with different variations, I'm sure you will all see something like this more often from now on.

aint no sunshine

Today I was supposed to go to the beach with my sister, and I was hoping to have some photos from that, but out of all the sunny days I was working this week, this one was cloudy and on the verge of rain all day. so instead here is this weeks flowers, some mums and some sunflowers. I have always loved mums, the colors are so lovely and they dry exactly as they are. So once I'm done with them all I have to do is place them in a bottle up high on a shelf and there they will stay, looking as lovely as the first day I got them.

Just want to say thank for all the wonderful feedback lately. I posted two hairstyle tutorial videos recently and I have been getting great feedback on them! Especially on my tumblr, girls letting me know left and right that the messy up-do worked perfectly and how great of a summer hair style it is. It really is my go-to hair style when it's just one of those bad hair days, or when I just need my long mane off my neck for a bit! I really appreciate all the kind words, It's not easy putting yourself out there on video for all to see, but I like doing it, so expect more in the future!

On another note, things may get a bit slow around here this month, I didn't get any one really interested in sponsorship this month, which is kind of good anyways cause the month goes by fast enough while apartment hunting, let alone worrying about specific posts I have to do. Don't get me wrong, I loved doing it, and would love to start up again with the sponsors, but right now just is not the time. I am also job hunting, switching my health plan back over to my parents (TJ's had great benefits, but now I will be without them) and doing a few other projects.. for real, there is not enough time in the month for all of these things! up-do tutorial!

Wow! Two tutorials in a row! So this one is for that messy bun up-do I do pretty often. All you need is some bobby pins to get this look. Mess around with it and see what comes out, every time if kind of different for me, so practice makes perfect! If you have any questions, if I was not clear about anything, let em know! And as always, suggest anything else you want to see! Not like I do too many other hair styles.. But I can do different braids and junk!

Edit: By the way, this was the first and only take on this, I got off work, stopped at the post office, and then came home and did this. I didn't mess up at all, and it came out pretty cute. Talking to the camera can be a bit strange. I start to forget what I am talking about and start using um's and uh's.. but I think I was pretty normal sounding, haha! And George at the end. I'm a weirdo. And sorry, I realized the music is a bit too loud, and you can hardly hear me. I'll work on fixing that now and but up a better version.

rag curl tutorial!

Finally! I got around to video taping myself doing my rag curls! So this is my second hair tutorial video, I'm not really used to videotaping myself and just talking straight to a camera, so I'm a little weird haha. I noticed I start off kind of bright and energetic, then I get kind of boring sounding lol. And taping myself right after I wake up! Jeeze, I should keep that to a minimum (straight out of bed with no makeup, might I add!) Also, I make a lot of weird faces! wiggling my nose and stuff.. ignore that! hehe

So a few things before you watch, please excuse the weird sound in the backgound, just a few days our toliet started making this weird noise and I think you can here it, at the beginning at least. Also I was interupted a few times so there are weird breaks in the video, dont mind that, I'm not too great at editing. Also, I originally had The Doors playing in this video, but I guess they have some licensing and Youtube kept removing my audio when I uploaded it! So I had to pick something I knew I wasn't infringing on any copyrights with, so instead you can hear the great music of Twin Sister, Long Island band that I'm lucky enough to know the singer of, an awesome chick named Andrea! You should check them out, things this good don't usually come out of LI!

Also, let me just say, It took me a little while before I picked up my own technique, it can be a bit hard and come out messy the first few times. But remember, practice makes perfect and the more you try these out the easier it will become and your curls will come out just wonderful! So, let me know what you think, and let me know what else you want to see! I have a few hair styles I do kind of often and I would love to show you how!

Oh yea, and you can hear a firework go off outside right in the first few seconds haha. People celebrating early around here.

My hair was lookin' good monday, and I didn't get a photo! So here is me and George at night before I took it out, he likes my hair too :) The same night (and morning after) I filmed a rag curl hair tutorial! I just got done editing it, now I just need to upload to youtube then I will post it! I'm a little weird in the video (not used to filming myself, or just talking to a camera) and I had a few interruptions so there are random cuts here and there. But hey! I finally did it!

A little sunset viewing with the boy on our day off together. It actually wasn't as nice as it looks, as there were these little beach flies attacking us the whole time! It was totally lame, cause I wanted to go see the sunset so bad, I was really looking forward to it. And we made these really good vegan enchiladas before we left to catch the sunset so we were in good spirits. But the sunset was very pretty, and afterwards we went to go see Super 8, which was good, in the way that it was very Steven Spielberg and it really reminded me of E.T. (which is also my initials, and always bothered me) and also Elle Fanning is so cute and great.. but otherwise it was okay. I love the way he uses light reflection off like street lights and stuff, and the kids bedrooms all messy with kid stuff all over the place. And I love the 70s so, yea I guess I liked it :)

So this dress I got at an estate sale, I talked about it a while ago, and I have worn this dress like a billion times since I got it, but just never got a photo of. But I really really love it! And it's a shame because the fabric is kind of thin, on the back especially and there are two rips behind my left shoulder that I fixed already, but is ripping again. You all know I don't mind a rip here or there, but this one makes it feel very fragile when it is on.. I need to get to fixing that. The booties I just got the other day at the thrift store.. it is all Jeremy's fault, I am trying my best not to buy anything or spend money but he sent me there when he was at work to get him a black belt for the wedding.. and I just had to look! and I couldn't leave without these. I think they were $6.. I never remember the prices of things. I have a bunch of pairs like this already, but these feel the most comfortable.

I was also having a good hair day. Just twirl it up and stick a bunch of bobby pins in. You never know what you are going to get really, but I like what today brought out. Yesterday I was the +1 to Jeremy's friend Liz's wedding. It has been a while since I have been to a wedding, and I was eagerly awaiting this one for a few reasons. I love any excuse to get dressed up, I couldn't wait to get some photos of Jeremy and I cause we hardly have any together, and he was looking real dapper in his suit. Also free booze, food and dancing all night sounds like my kind of way to party! I had planed on wearing a dress I got at the TLO nyc pop up shop, but then I went to Brimfield and came across this amazing dress that fit like a dream and it looked like such a perfect wedding dress, I just had to wear it! I wish you could get a better look at the shoes I was wearing, they were pretty simple black pumps, but with a pretty little flat bow on the front. I was on the search for something just like these to wear with this dress. I went thrifting and came home with these beauties, Anne Klein for only $10! The little beaded clutch I think I thrifted a long long time ago.

It was a really fun wedding, a classic ceremony at a church (not really my cup of tea, but the bride and groom both came from big Italian families, so I could tell that bit was to please the family) and the reception afterwards was nearby at a relatives house under a big tent.. so pretty! I had no idea it was going to be such a low key kind of thing, but I really dug it. The lighting in the tent was really cool, the food was good and there was dancing all night. Italians really know how to party haha. Succulents were being given away as parting gifts, and I forgot to take one! I guess it's better off cause my cats would just end up killing it anyways hah. And the centerpiece was really nice, I had to snap some photos. We got to take it home too!

Here is what I wore yesterday, I had the day off, but didn't do too much with my time. I went to get my nails done for the first time in a while, we are going to a wedding later today and I wanted to get a color to match part of my dress. I also never matched my nails to my lipstick before, I'm really diggin' it! In an episode of Mad Men, all the secretaries are doing a testing of Belle Jolle lipstick, and in explaining why she chose the color she's wearing, one girl said sometimes she matches her lipstick to her nail color. It sounded a bit silly and limited as far as what color you can wear on your nails (I like to get crazy with colors sometimes.. and lipstick dosen't really come in sea foam green.. and I don't know how I would look in that anyways) but I quite like the idea. Especially since I tend to wear coral lipstick, I never tried coral nail polish before! But I like it!

The remainder of the day I spent cleaning and wanting for Jeremy to get home from work at 6, then we had some dinner and got ready to have some boys over for a game of poker. Before Jeremy got promoted we were doing these games every friday night, just low stakes stuff with some boys from work. He had been working all later shifts until this week so he wasn't around to play, and he's good! I'm okay, I hold my own, but I don't think I have a very good poker face and I'm always too scared to bluff!

Any who, I changed for the game (I like to show a bit more leg, distract the boys a bit hehe) But I wore this all day when I ran some errands and got my nails done and all that. This striped button up is probably my favorite one in my closet, love the pattern and it is oh so super soft. I got it at an estate sale, a really old house with tons and tons of boys clothes! I miss going to estate sales.. it sucks having to save all your money!! The pants were little boys communion pants probably, that I got at the thrift store. Best kept thrifting secret, shop the little boys section! For some reason the pants fit like a dream, you can also find cute sweaters that are often shrunken and cropped on us full size ladies. Cute little tee shirts, as well as button ups! I love these ones, the perfect shade of Pete Campbell blue (more Mad Men talk, Jeremy and I have been re watching because we are going through some sort of deficiency.. Mad Men come back!!!!!) which is probably my favorite suit color. I'm gonna get my boyfriend in a blue suit one day, I think it looks so classic, and looks really great if I wear yellow! My shoes are from etsy and my belt is thrifted, and thats all folks!

my college dorm room ca. 2007

So, this post is going to be a little funny (well, I think so at least) you may have noticed photos from this 2007 Nylon editorial making the rounds on tumblr. I think it's possibly my favorite Nylon editorial ever. I remember being so in love with that girls hair color (which caused me to dye my hair from VERY blonde to "chocolate cherry" and then get a bad haircut and then hate my liiiffeeee...) and how casual, yet totally well dressed she was. Lounging around drinking coffee, hugging plants and reading books.

Back to the point of this entry, seeing these images reminded me of how back then I was a big magazine subscriber, also a big fan of saving all my magazines. I still have a huge stash at my parents house, mostly of Nylons. And when I moved into the FIT co-ed dorm in the spring of 2007 I brought all those with me. I liked having the inspiration around. Then I cut up a whole bunch and decorated my dorm room like a mad woman!! These photos here were taken by my first room mate, a gothic chick from Connecticut who was a total drag. But we only lived together for one semester, and she took these photos which I can now look back on in remembrance, so thanks girl! (please excuse my name across some of them and the poor quality, had to take screen shots of these off facebook, ha)

I just wanted to share with you all, cause I think it's cool and funny that these photos are still around.. and I'm surprised the place wasent more of a mess! I'm pretty sloppy when it comes to putting clothes away, and making the bed as you can see :) After this semester, I dormed with three of my friends in a quad, and although the company was better, I don't think I ever decorated my room as well as this time. Ahh, memories!

I forgot I had one more installment of my Brimfield antique fair photos. I didn't realize just how many I took! Next month I will be heading back up to western MA, but this time it will be shortly before the fair (this fair happens three times a year, in may, july and september.. so you still have time to catch this amazing sight if your in the area!) to help set up Donnaland (if you check out my first post on being their last month, Donnaland is the shop I helped pack up at the end of the week) for the second fair. I will be paid in trade once more, so I will have wonderful things for my shop once I return! I will not be staying for the actual fair, but I'v seen it all.. and getting paid in vintage for three days of hard work. I'm sure I will be coming home with a boatload of stuff!

One more photo I forgot to put in my film post, a quick shot over my shoulder on a drive home from brooklyn. Thats the sun setting behind the empire state building. I see this skyline so often, but I can never get enoiugh. Sometimes it's extremely foggy and you can't see anything over the side of the BQE (brooklyn queens expressway) other times you catch it from the east at sunset like this, and it's beautiful. Then you get to drive by it at night and you get to see it all lit up, I never wonder why I love this city so much. Can't hardly wait for it to be right outside my door.

What is your favorite era in fashion?
My favorite era lately has been the sixties and seventies. I am really into crazy prints, shift dresses, exaggerated sunglasses, and bright colors. I have also really been into the 90s aesthetic that's been popular for awhile now- I remember a lot of this stuff from it's first time around and it's fun to play with a little nostalgia. The drabness and tackiness of the 90s are great.

What inspires you and influences you when looking for items for your shop?
When I shop for items for my store I try to buy things I would want in my own closet! The reason I actually started my store was because I kept finding things that were too awesome to pass up, but I didn't want them for myself either because they didnt fit me or I didn't need it. My biggest sartorial inspirations are tv and movies: anywhere from hal hartley movies to valley of the dolls.

Best vintage find?
Either my perfectly worn in, fits-like-a-dream denim jacket or these egyptian print t-shirt dress I found a few weeks ago. The pattern is amazing!

NYC & Philly blogger meet up

So saturday was the NYC & Philly blogger meet up at McCarren park in Brooklyn. This first photo here was the only one taken by me.. I'm so bad at breaking out my camera sometimes! But this photo only shows like half the people who came, it was a pretty big gathering, it was just perfect!

I came in a bit early to grab some bagels and coffee with Anna Li, (the one behind the rest of these photos) she's the lovely lady that shot The Loved One's video look book and since then we got to know each other online a bit, and so we became fast friends when we hung out allll day saturday. Then Liz from Olive, My Love came to join us before heading off to McCarren park. I don't know why I didn't know this lady before, or how we could have not hung out before, she's so funny and sweet. And she makes funny faces like I do, she was super down to earth and I'm sure once I move to Brooklyn she will become a regular fixture in my life :)

Then we made our way to the park, about 10 girls were already there with a bunch of blankets all laid out. It looked like the nicest picnic around! I brought some yellow balloons with me to help others find us, it's a fairly big park. There was snacks for munching (trader joes!) and some spiked punch for sipping. Veronica of Tick Tock Vintage made cute name tags for everyone to wear with their name and blog name on them. Hannah from Heart City Vintage was there too, we had been corresponding a bit through email since she invited me to this get together, so I was excited to meet her. She was really sweet, just how I expected, come to NY again some time!!

I got to meet a really great Long Island blogger names Kallie, she writes a blog called Happy Honey and Lark and I as so so happy to meet her! I never come across any bloggers from LI, and out here it's hard to find cool stylish people. I don't know why her and I have only met now.. I can see her becoming a good friend, and she lives so close! Ah, the wonders of the blogosphere! Another lovely lady who I ended up spending most of the day with is Alley, who writes a blog which is pretty much just inspiration stuff. But she also has a dream job and works for Stylelikeu, shes got amazing vintage clothing, and shes smart and funny. I knew her in real like before this meet up too hah, we met at Hannah and Landons christmas party (also where I met friends Wray and Annie who I mentioned in my Ambit trunk show post) but that was the last time I saw her. Once again, a wonderful lady I hope to be seeing more of once I make the move.

Okay, I'll try and wrap this up now, at around 5 the party started breaking up, after that Anna, Alley, Liz and myself hung out for quite a while, this brooklyn walks thing was going on, like a street festival, so Bedford was all closed off with vendors and chairs set up. We grabbed a table and just talked for a while. It's amazing how conversation is never ending with these fashion girls. Yay for finding girls with stuff in common! Then we went uo to Anna's roof, the best roof I have ever been on! Pretty close to the water, amazing view of manhattan, spend another hour up ther talking. Then went to get food at Pop's and talked for an even longer time haha.

Thanks so much for everyone involved with making this meet up happen! We need these more often, or at least twice a year. I expect to have another in september come fashion week. Girls from all over are in town then, I went to the one last year and it was a blast!

These are some photos from the first roll of film I shot in years! I took photo classes in high school, but that was probably the last time I shot some. I used this vintage little camera Ali gave me, it's simple to use and I really like the results! I need to learn not to take photos too close, like of my flowers as you can see. I need to stay three feet away at least, but the blurry look on some of them I quite like!

Ambit trunk show at End of Century

Friday I had the great honor of working with Wray and Amber of Ambit again at their first ever trunk show and sample sale which was held at this great shop End of Century which is co-owned by two super cute and friendly girls. Most of these photos are just from around the shop before the big crowds came. I was one of the three models standing around and socializing in Ambit clothing. It was a hot sweaty night in NYC, but everyone came out to give some suport to these great girls! Ambit is really starting to take off, getting press here and there, and it's all very well deserved. Amber and Wray are so hard working, driven and dead on with their style. Sleek shapes, great colors and they do wonderful things with buttons!

Friend and makeup artist Annie Strole was there doing her thing, she writes a great blog where she reviews products and gives her honest opinion. She is a big advocate for all natural products , and so well informed on the subject! be sure to go check out her blog here. Once I find more photos of the night floating around I will be sure to share, there was a girl snapping away photos all night so I will have to track them down! There was also a camera crew doing some filming for a project I can't quite talk about yet.. but it was an exciting night. I love the creative people in the city area I have become friends with, super sweet and very talented!

The Loved One "forever" Shop!

I think most of us, if not all of us know about The Loved One's real, permanent, brick and mortar shop that's now open in Pasadena! Or as I like to call it, a "forever" shop, because of the two pop-up shops the ladies held on both coasts since the birth of TLO. Lovely vintage and pretty underthings were just a fleeting chance back then, now Elvia and Hannah have their own shop, complete with two shop girls and a large following already.

I am really so so proud of them, It was only the end of last year when they received their funding from their Kickstarter project to get the ball rolling. And here we are not even a year later with some pop-up shops under their belt, countless ladies around the world traipsing around the streets with such pretty things under their dresses, and now a real shop! I think it's only a matter of time before they find a prime NYC location, and then TLO will really be bi-coastal! It makes me a bit sad it's all the way over in California, but I have hopes for a visit over there in the coming year, lots of great people out that way I need to meet!

snapdragons and lisianthus

Last weeks flowers, some beautiful Snapdragons and lovely yellow Lisianthus. My flowers always come from Trader Joe's, usually from the store I work at. But I went to another one on LI last week and I got these there. They had a really great flower section, usually the snapdragons we get at out store come in all crushed. These ones were perfect, they really made my week. I think I might start going there to get my flowers!

The Family Jewels Vintage and Jille magazine

SO, the exciting news I was talking about in my last post goes a little something like this.. So last week I got an Email from this writer Michiko Yoshifuji asking if I would be interested in being in this japanese fashion magazine Jille, they wanted to do a feature on me at my favorite NYC vintage store styling some outfits. And I jumped at the chance! I did not know about Jille, but I have seen japanese fashion magazines in the past, and not unlike this one, they are packed cover to cover with style, and a lot of the time personal style. I know street style is pretty big there, with a huge focus on real people, as well as big trends in their magazines. So I felt it was a good fit, considering I don't like to call this a "fashion blog" since I don't claim to know anything about fashion per say, I just that I like to express myself through my style and document it here.

I do not do most of my vintage shopping in nyc. In fact I hardly do any there! But I have been to a good deal of them, I just like to look around, these are mostly one of a kind pieces and I just love the thrill of finding something amazing, even if I can't afford it. But when I had to choose, I picked The Family Jewels Vintage on west 23rd because of their amazing inventory, and cool shop girls! This place is only a few blocks south of FIT, so when I went there I would come here sometimes just to look. It is quite pricy, but you can find a deal here and there ($138 for this one dress, but I also found a hat for $8) and they have SO MUCH! Things are mostly hung according to era, and then by color, blouses buy cut and style. Even all the summer dresses were all waiting for me on their own rack. The two girls working were decked out in vintage as well, they looked like they had great style and a good deal of knowledge too.

So Michiko asked me to take a look around and style a few outfits. It was fun getting to shop around and pick out whatever, and to get to have all these shoes and hats and bags and jewelry to play with, it was seriously awesome. Plus it was right when they opened to it was pretty much just us. I have a few photos here of the outfits I styled, not the best quality but once I get the issue I'll be sure to post whatever it is they write!

Pretty cool huh? It was also a nice day out, and after when I was walking to the subway, I got stopped by this cool chick who said "Hey, you look like a nice person who loves the planet!" and I do! And then ended up donating money to Greenpeace. I felt good, It was getting a bit hot and she said I was the first person to stop and donate, and she was funny and I was feeling good at the time so, yea.
